Flip flop

Jay: Ma... I need to go to the loo.
Me: You are old enough! Go on your own.. why do you make me get up every five mins??!! This is the last time Im getting up! From tomorrow, do NOT call me!

Jay, quiet as he goes to the loo with me tagging along. I turn away then hear the water spray. Am in the bathroom in a flash.

Me: Do NOT spray water all over! Have I not told you to be careful??!!!! Call me! Do NOT do anything without me!!!

Small wonder kids stop taking what their parents say seriously pretty early on in life.

swearing!

Sid said 'why the hell did i get hurt...'.. and I promptly said no swearing. Sid asks what do you mean 'swearing'? and the 3 year old pipes up 'it mean no saying rubbish things.. mean bad things.. mean like blood and all'. Right, now who wants to take up raising them? I'd like a show of hands please...

Mutterings...

Jay's been playing with a silver ring of mine - the closest he can get his hands on to the one ring in The Lord of The Rings movie (yes, he knows what that is).

He wanted to take it into the bath and I said "No, if it falls in the drain I'll make you go in and get it". After just a second he says "But....... how will I come out?" He apparently knows the trick to get into the drain, 5 inches wide.

He continues, in a muted voice though, "Then I can't come out. Then amma will say where is Jay? he's not coming out only.... such a cute baby..where did he gooooo...."?

Junk food etc.

We're in the car and Jay says "Amma, my cheeks are paining". Now this one's new to me.. To you too? I suppose. I never knew cheeks could hurt.
Me: Why Jay? Where is it paining? Inside or outside on the skin? (Am thinking mebbe it's a toothache from all the candy).
Jay: Outside.
Me: Are you sure? Because if you eat a lot of candy the inside will pain.
Jay: No amma, I diddunt eat anything junk yesssturday.

Etc. Small things he says that make me smile... in wonder!
"Amma, I be Ironman, you be raw machine" (that's war machine)
"No pobbem, amma. I play here only"
"Who fend is coming to us mane amma? Appa fend or u fend?" (fend=friend, mane=house)

mere nonsense

It's been a while! Not that Sid and Jay aren't saying or doing anything eye-opening every single day.. but I'm slacking...

So just now - after a hard day's day (that's how it is with 2 kids) I was telling Balu that we should go to Pondicherry soon - just the two of us. There are some amazing properties there that acquaintances have visited recently that i so want to try out. Jay starts off "Noooooo... I want to come. Please don't leave me. I want to go on that bye bye....". Sigh...

Pajabi

Of late, when we make pav bhaji at home, Jay's excited. He likes the pav, not the bhaji and will make a dinner out of just pav. What he calls it, tho, is the highlight of any eve we make this - Pajabi.

All in a day's vocab - with Jay

'Amma, what fell?' - if he hears something fall.

'Jay go play alone' - if I tell him there's no one in the playground and he'll get bored.

'Anna (Sid) see waka waka, Jay see freedom' - when he wants to see K'Naan's Give me Freedom on youtube. And after his song, he will want to see waka waka also.

'Ay, why natch?' 'Ay, why push'? 'Ay, why throw ball there?' 'Ay, why amma cold (scold) me?'... as if there aren't so many unanswered questions out there already !

'Amma, elp me' - if something's stuck and he can't get to it.

'Raksha, Ratan...wear cap. Me also'

'Pease give me, last candy, ok?' (this is repeated at least ten times a day).

'Show me runnin' one video'.

There are so many more things he says, so cutely. More as and when I can remember :).

Jay amazes me every day

Jay's been listening to the alligator-monkey story for a few nights now. In which the alligator wants to eat the monkey while ferrying him across the river. And the monkey gets away by telling the silly alligator that his heart is across the river and the alligator can eat him after he gets across.

Jay is also looking at picture books these days and he saw a heart shape the other day. I told him it was a heart the day before yesterday. This morning when he turned to the page again, he identified it as a heart.

When I showed surprise that he remembered it's a heart, he says, "heart, same monkey story".

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
